Distance Learning Library FAQs: Home

  • Do you still offer book checkouts?
    • Yes! Browse the catalog and place a hold on the book you want. You may place holds on up to five books at a time. However, if you'd like more than five, let us know!  We'll make it happen.
      • Requested books can be picked up through our curbside checkout program on Mondays through Fridays, 8 to 3:30.
      • Once the book is ready for pick up, you'll receive a confirmation email in your school GMail account.
      • Go to the main entrance (door #1), ring the intercom, tell the office staff you are there to get a reserved library book, and someone will bring it to you from a cart just inside the main entrance door.
    • We also have other ebook resources! More information can be found here

  • Will these books be safe to handle?
    • All books returned go through an isolation period of one day before they are checked in and shelved. We take caution by wearing personal protective equipment while handling books.

  • Where can I borrow ebooks?
    • MackinVIA is the our new ebook platform. You can access it via website or by downloading the MackinVIA app on your mobile device. Watch the video instructions for help or email Ms. Gunther or Ms. Ji.

  • I have library books from previous school year that I want to return.
    • You may return your books during our curbside checkout Mondays through Friday, 8 to 3:30 at the main entrance to the school.  Ring the intercom and tell the office staff you are there to return library books.  Someone will come take them from you. Even if you are not able to return books, you will not be charged overdue fines. You may also return books when schools reopen.

  • I need some reading recommendations.
    • Check out our "Reading" page for recommendations.

  • I need help with my research project.
    • Check out our "Databases" page for information. Also, reach out to Ms. Gunther or Ms. Ji for reference assistance.

  • I need help with citing sources.
    • There are several free resources that show you how to create citations. Purdue OWL is a great resource. We also offer NoodleTools, which is a citation management website available to FCPS students. It is one of our favorite tools accessible through school Google Suite.

  • I don't have Internet at home. What assistance is available?
    • FCPS offers MiFis to support distance learning. Please reach out to your admin to request a MiFi.
